2022 Overview

Our 2022 awards ceremony saw us meet with judges, nominees and winners in-person for the first time. It was a truly special occasion and a celebration that will live long in the memory. Maxine Nwaneri returned once more to host.

2022 Winners

While it can feel like a cliché to suggest that the judges had a difficult job, 2022 saw the bar raised even higher as nominees all demonstrated a truly outstanding combined contribution to the cloud community.

Tech for Good (Joint winners)

As well as creating a life-saving product that supports greener futures, VRAI Simulation has embraced equal opportunities and the triple bottom line (people, profit, planet), by committing to providing a percentage of payroll to impactful community projects and creating gender-balanced shortlists for all new hires.

Cognizant is a self-organized task force of more than 400 volunteers in Nairn, Scotland, whose goal was to find a way to mobilize volunteer support and relief during the Covid-19 pandemic. The app saw more than 2,500 volunteers register to support a community of 260,000 people, with a wider roll-out now planned.

Outstanding Contribution to the Salesforce Ecosystem

During his Salesforce journey Gaspar founded RefugeeForce in the Netherlands, to support asylum seekers by helping to equip them with the skills needed to gain meaningful employment—a vital part of helping them regain a sense of belonging. The program is free of charge and has seen 87 participants fully trained in Salesforce since 2019.

Tech Star of the Year

A new AWS Hero, Anurag has been a passionate cloud advocate from the moment his career brought him into the AWS ecosystem. He regularly speaks at community events and meetups around the world, and continues to be a cloud evangelist through initiatives such as The Apprentice Project, that help students from low-income backgrounds improve their knowledge in technology.

Outstanding Contribution to the AWS Ecosystem

Founder of Deaf in the Cloud, Rob has created a virtual user group for deaf and signers that work in tech, providing a space for support and networking, as well as evangelising about the power of the cloud and sharing best practice. On top of that Rob is a frequent blogger on AWS, as well as a regular speaker at events that help make STEM a better place to work for everyone.

In February 2021, Victoria and partners completed the management buyout of Bam Boom Cloud, and supported a relatively young workforce across two continents in the process. She’s an advocate of people being their authentic selves at work, placing an emphasis on a culture that values empathy, trust, clarity and kindness.

When the pandemic restricted international travel, Singapore’s tech community faced a critical skills shortage despite major job losses in the country. Generation Singapore helped tackle the issue head-on and provide trained local talent, culminating in Government funding that will help teach and place 1000 Singaporeans with Microsoft partners and customers.

Rapid Business Innovation Champion

This integrated cloud platform uses advanced data science, historical data processing and real-time monitoring to solve patient management and coordinate inefficiencies in healthcare. As well as recovering 10-20% of lost patient time, DOCPACE adopted a virtual waiting room during the pandemic, giving users the safer option of queuing outdoors instead of crowded indoor spaces.

With the help of a Power Platform solution, Intelogy has provided London’s Air Ambulance team with a level of auditing not previously possible, helping them embrace digital ways of working in the process. Using the Power App, paramedics have an efficient, easy-to-use interface that means London’s medical teams are able to spend more time where it matters—with patients.

Working in collaboration with AWS and La Trobe University, Didasko has created the world’s first online degree, the world’s first Bachelor’s online degree in Applied Cloud Technology. The course allows students to take charge of the way they learn and fill the most critical skills gaps in their cloud knowledge, with a centralized hub where individuals can track, manage and plan their entire experience.

Generation Italy was launched in 2015 by McKinsey and Company, to arm unemployed young people with the skills they need to succeed. This has seen over 900 trained in digital careers, with an employment rate at the end of the courses of 83%. It’s been a vital and life-changing resource for those in a country that suffered a loss of 1.2m jobs during the pandemic.

Merkle’s seven employee-led pillars make up their Diversity, Equality and Inclusion council, who have refocused their objectives following the murder of George Floyd in 2020. Now, the group has moved towards radical change and progress in order to become a truly anti-racist organization, and engages with third party specialists in order to continue learning and becoming an inclusive place of work.

Rackspace Technology has acknowledged that innovation is sparked by diversity, which is why they’ve created several ways that staff can be their authentic selves at work. They have initiated a number of employee resource groups that support those from different backgrounds, helping to make cloud technology a better and more inclusive place to work for all.

2021 Overview

Our first awards ceremony took place in 2021 and was hosted by Maxine Nwaneri. With Covid-19 restrictions still in place around much of the world, the event took place virtually—with nominees, winners and judges all joining us online to celebrate their success in the first ever Digital Revolution Awards.

The winners in the 2021 Digital Revolution Awards all showed some of the creativity, innovation and force for good that cloud technology can offer the world.

SumUp Business Pioneer of the Year Award

With its new integrated cloud and infrastructure operations management platform, Trianz provides enterprises with a unified, holistic view of their IT operations. Concierto.cloud is revolutionising infrastructure management and responding to the growing need for unified oversight in an age where businesses are operating a multitude of next-gen ISV solutions.

Outstanding Leadership Award, CTO

Hannah Wolfe is CTO and co-founder at Ghost, an open-source, non-profit publishing platform. Hannah has shown outstanding leadership and innovation in her role, and has made a significant impact not only on Ghost, but on the lives of those independent creators who are empowered by the use of this platform. Launched in 2013, Ghost remains inherently open source, and everything Hannah and Ghost does is in the sole interest of building the best product, supporting sustainable journalism, publishing and more open web.

Revolent Diversity and Inclusion Employer of the Year, Business Award

American Express values and embraces the diversity of thought, backgrounds and experiences of all employees. Through its Employee Networks scheme, Amex is helping employees broaden their associations with other employees while expanding their knowledge of the business. Some of these networks include Asian Network at Amex, Women in Technology, Black Engagement Network, Disability Awareness Network, Millennial Network and the Veterans Network, to name just a few.

Copado Cloud Technology Product of the Year Award

ThreatModeler is an automated threat modelling solution that secures and scales the enterprise software and cloud development life cycle. In 2020, the company launched its AWS Security EPICS Automated offering, developed to automate and accelerate the design of secure AWS cloud environments—a critical tool at a time when more business are making the move to the cloud.

Rebura Rapid Business Innovation Champion Award

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit Ontario, EdTech organisation Ink Smith launched The Canadian Shield to address the shortage of PPE. The company quickly grew to meet demand, developing a face shield that could be produced and manufactured at scale, using existing resources and capabilities. The company now employs over 300 people and produces 200,000 shields a day, not only helping to solve the PPE shortage problem, but reinvigorating the local manufacturing sector with full-time, living wage jobs.

Aligned Technology Group Outstanding Contribution to the AWS Ecosystem Award

An education leader, speaker, and event organiser, Vicky Seno is paving the way for women in the cloud space by helping others upskill and learn more about subjects like containers, serverless, networking, and security. Dedicated to creating more learning opportunities for those looking to learn more about AWS, Vicky has developed an AWS Cloud Computing college degree, has trained staff from countless colleges, and leads coding courses for those looking to break into the industry.

Brown Girl Tech World Tech Star of the Year Award

An author, speaker, and change leader, Chaitra Vedullapalli is the President and Co-founder of Women in Cloud, a community-led economic development initiative that is driving global conversations with the United Nations and tech corporations to ensure an inclusive technology industry and economy.

Elements.cloud Outstanding Leadership Award, CIO

Gertrude’s outstanding recent work includes overseeing two huge and impactful implementation projects at NCH Corporation; rolling out Oracle across 36 countries, and launching Salesforce on Force.com using NCH’s own proprietary software. Delivering these projects has enabled the company to focus on processes that have empowered the entire business. Despite her expertise as a tech leader, Gertrude’s focus is always people, and fostering a true team atmosphere where trust is paramount.

ClickDimensions Diversity and Inclusion Employer of the Year, Partner Award

Founded by Meg Quinn and Bryan Dobson, Bower House Digital is home to a team of almost forty Salesforce Marketing Cloud professionals. Through their core values of inclusiveness and a focus on developing a great cultural understanding of what makes a great team member, Bower House Digital has built a cloud tech consultancy with a near 50/50 gender split, zero gender pay gap, and zero turnover.

Frank Recruitment Group Fast Growth Cloud Business of the Year

eCloudvalley launched in 2014 and obtained AWS Managed Service Partner status in its first two years. Since its inception, eCloudvalley has attained more than 500 AWS certifications and served more than 1,000 customers. In 2019, eCloudvalley’s cloud services revenue reached $85m USD, accounting for nearly 40% of its consolidated revenue. The company’s recent success earned it a place on the Financial Times’ Top 10 High Growth Companies; the only Asia Pacific Company to do so in early 2020.

Code First Girls Most Diverse and Inclusive Board of the Year Award

Verizon’s commitment to D&I is evident in its US workforce—59.3% of employees and half of its board members are women or people of colour. Alongside a diverse workforce, Verizon are also committed to creating a diverse supply chain, spending $5.8 billion in goods and services with diverse suppliers, including minority, women, veteran, service-disabled veterans, LGBT, and disability-owned businesses in 2019 alone.

PolSource Outstanding Contribution to the Salesforce Ecosystem Award

In the midst of last year’s economic turmoil, Salesforce MVP Gemma decided to share with others what she already knew: that Salesforce could help people develop rewarding new careers. And so Gemma created a series of YouTube tutorials, every week for 28 weeks, aiming to teach people all about Salesforce, and offering people who had been furloughed or lost jobs access to expert-led Salesforce training for free. Participants in the course have gone on to be named Salesforce Champions, gained certifications, and started on new career paths in the Salesforce ecosystem.  

Barclays Women in Technology Outstanding Leadership Award, CEO

Will co-founded Unily in 2006, and has led the company to become a globally recognised brand in the SharePoint marketplace. Last year, Will not only designed, produced, and distributed 3D printed visors to the NHS and other organisations, but he also supplied his employees with 3D printers so they could scale up production. At the same time, Will and his team were steering the business through the ongoing pandemic and a spike in demand. In 2020, Unily saw sales rise by 30%, and the team still found the time to make and supply over 3,000 masks to hospitals, hospices, and ambulance services across the UK.

Migrant Leaders Tech for Good Award

Polaris is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation that works to fight and prevent modern-day slavery and human trafficking. Polaris analysed more than 32,000 cases of human trafficking documented between December 2007 and December 2016 through the National Human Trafficking Hotline. Through this data, Polaris was able to release The Typology of Modern Slavery, a report helping people identify instances of trafficking and modern slavery. The organisation continues to make its datasets available to other groups committed to combating trafficking.

IBM Cloud Technology Deal of the Year Award

Adobe acquired cloud work and project management software firm Workfront in early 2020. The move will enable marketers to create and deliver the best customer experiences through one central system, revolutionizing how they plan, collaborate on, and oversee their workflow.

Natterbox Digital Transformation Project of the Year Award

Main Street Digital is helping local businesses access and exploit digital transformation through a single economic development platform using cloud and AI technologies. The solution is already helping businesses in Kirkland, Washington fast-track their economic recovery through Shop Local Kirkland, a hyper-local, digital marketplace housing more than 270 storefronts on a virtual high street and connecting businesses to customers. Meylah aims to replicate model to various cities in Washington State to ignite economic recovery.

Arbela Technologies Outstanding Contribution to the Microsoft Ecosystem Award

Using the Microsoft Power Platform, Microsoft partner Barhead Solutions developed a solution to help automate YMCA Victoria’s application process for the Australian government’s JobKeeper program. Developed in just two days, the solution ensured over 5,000 staff were paid their wages that month.

Revolent Excellence in Learning and Development Award

Trailhead’s accessible, bite-sized, and gamified upskilling community has inspired a learning movement within the tech space. At a time when tech skills are in high demand, and the cloud space presents enormous career opportunities, Trailhead is democratising learning and empowering more budding technologists to break into the Salesforce space.

And so Gemma created a series of YouTube tutorials, every week for 28 weeks, aiming to teach people all about Salesforce, and offering people who had been furloughed or lost jobs access to expert-led Salesforce training for free. Participants in the course have gone on to be named Salesforce Champions, gained certifications, and started on new career paths in the Salesforce ecosystem.  

Migrant Leaders Tech for Good Award

Polaris is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation that works to fight and prevent modern-day slavery and human trafficking. Polaris analysed more than 32,000 cases of human trafficking documented between December 2007 and December 2016 through the National Human Trafficking Hotline. Through this data, Polaris was able to release The Typology of Modern Slavery, a report helping people identify instances of trafficking and modern slavery. The organisation continues to make its datasets available to other groups committed to combating trafficking.

Natterbox Digital Transformation Project of the Year Award

Main Street Digital is helping local businesses access and exploit digital transformation through a single economic development platform using cloud and AI technologies. The solution is already helping businesses in Kirkland, Washington fast-track their economic recovery through Shop Local Kirkland, a hyper-local, digital marketplace housing more than 270 storefronts on a virtual high street and connecting businesses to customers. Meylah aims to replicate model to various cities in Washington State to ignite economic recovery.
